Privacy Policy
RookaLabs · Scriptorium · Laboratorium · Inventarium · Comitium (Operanda suite)
Effective: October 4, 2026
Summary
RookaLabs. does not collect any personal information from app users. The apps contain no ads, analytics, or tracking, and send no data to company servers. The data you create stays on your Mac, only in the folder you allowed at first launch and any shared folder you choose yourself.
1. Where data is stored
Papers, lab notes, inventory records, meeting minutes, and attachments are stored in the folder you allowed at first launch (default: Documents › Operanda). They are copied to a shared folder (e.g., iCloud Drive, Google Drive, NAS) only if you designate one yourself; managing and securing that folder is up to that service and you.
2. Information sent externally only when you use a feature
| Feature | Sent to | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| AI summaries and organizing (optional) | The AI company you choose (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, Google), using your own API key | The text to summarize or organize. Before the first send, the app tells you the company name and what is sent and asks for your consent; you can withdraw it anytime in Settings. That company's privacy policy applies. Apple Intelligence and AI running on this Mac (Ollama, LM Studio) never send data off the Mac. Comitium uses only on-Mac AI (Apple Intelligence or a local Ollama model on localhost) for summaries, chat, import, and dictation cleanup; it has no cloud AI, and meeting content never leaves the Mac. Scriptorium starts with only on-device Apple Intelligence turned on, and uses cloud AI only after you turn it on in Settings › AI. |
| Paper search and download (Scriptorium) | Academic databases such as Crossref, PubMed/PMC, Europe PMC, OpenAlex, and arXiv, and publisher websites (Google Scholar opens in the in-app browser) | Search terms and paper identifiers (such as DOI). |
| Relationship view — citation map (Scriptorium) | OpenAlex (with your own OpenAlex API key, only if you entered one) or Crossref | The paper's DOI (its title if there is no DOI) and OpenAlex/Crossref identifiers — no PDFs or notes are sent. Results are stored on your device. |
| Paper importance — citations and RCR (Scriptorium) | NIH iCite (icite.od.nih.gov), otherwise Europe PMC or Crossref | The paper's PubMed ID (DOI if none) — no PDFs or notes are sent. Results are stored on your device. |
| Open in Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini (Scriptorium) | The app sends nothing — it opens in your browser (or that app) under your own account | The app only builds a study prompt (paper information, your notes, highlights) and places it in the URL or clipboard; you send the prompt and PDF yourself. That service's terms and your plan's data settings apply. |
| Reagent lookup (Inventarium) | Supplier and manufacturer websites | Search terms such as item name and catalog number. |
| Live dictation (Comitium) | Apple speech recognition | Processed on the Mac only. For languages without an on-device model, the app guides you to add it as a dictation language; audio is sent to Apple servers only if you turn on "Allow Apple server dictation" in Settings (off by default; Apple's privacy policy applies). While dictating, Comitium also saves a recording on your Mac so you can re-transcribe later (can be turned off in Settings). Recordings are never sent to the company, and go into a shared folder only if "Include recording when sharing" is on. |
3. Permissions
The apps request only microphone and speech recognition (Comitium) and access to folders you choose (all apps), and use them only when you use the related feature. API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain and are never sent to the company.
4. Children
The apps are for research and work and are not directed at children. The company does not collect information from users of any age.
5. Deleting data
Delete items inside the app, or delete the data folder you allowed. The company holds no user data.
6. Changes and contact
